President Muhammadu Buhari says the commitment of his administration towards improving road transport infrastructure is burnt out of the desire to ease ways of doing business and create job opportunities to lift people out of poverty.
President Muhammadu Buhari stated this at a ceremony to mark the completion and Handing over of fifty five kilometer Nguru-Gashua- Bayamari road in Yobe state.
The road completed and handed over by President Muhammadu Bauhari consist of 25 kilometer of the section 2 phese 1 of the Gashua- Bayamari road executed at the cost of over 6.5 billion naira and 30 kilometer section 1 of phase 2 of the Nguru- Gashua road at the cost of over 10.5 billion naira.
President Muhammadu Buhari represented by the Minister of Power Engineer Abubakar Aliyu said the fifty five kilometer road linking Nguru- Gashua- Bayamari in Yobe to Jigawa and Borno states would connect agrarian and trading communities which was part of the critical component of the administration’s road network.
The President further appealed to the benefitting communities to desist from any form of road abuse such as overload which accelerate pavement damage, spilling of petroleum products and converting of road shoulders to permanent parking space among others.
President Buhari also appealed to road users to strictly comply with stipulated Highway code and not to exceed the maximum driving speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour to prevent avoidable loss of lives due to accidents.
Also, Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Bauni pointed out that the economic importance of the road was unquantifiable as it would serve as a bridge for social and International trade between Yobe state and border communities in the neighboring Niger Republic.
Governor Buni however commended President Buhari for the restoration of peace and infrastructure development in the North East as well as the approval for the reimbursement of 18 billion naira to Yobe state government expended on construction of federal roads across the state among others
Earlier, the minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola represented by the comptroller Highway, North East, Engineer Celestine Shawisu explained that the ceremony marked the commencement of first set of the second phase of road project completion and Handing across the country.
Babatunde Raji Fashola further commended the Federal ministry of finance and the National Assembly for their support towards actualising the projects.
Similarly, the Emir of Bade Alhaji Abubakar Umar Sulaiman said the road project would not only open up the areas but also save travel time and further called on government to create market for farmers to sell their produce at good price.
